Little Company of Mary Sisters
up that Body. Our physical body
sends us messages all day. It tells us
what we need, for example when we
are thirsty. The Mystical Body is the
same.
One member of the Body can
call another into service. One of
the most important pieces of advice
I can give to someone considering a vocation to religious life is
ask those closest to you what they
think about the calling you may be
experiencing. Trust the opinions of
your friends and family. If they—the
people who know you the best—can
look at you and say, “I could see
you becoming a sister, or brother,
or priest,” you can take that as one
part of Christ’s body reaching out to
another. Listen to that call and take
it seriously.
I am not sure at this point if I
could answer which part of the body
in my story is supposed to be the
“stronger” one. Is it the police officer
or the friar? Nonetheless, one part
of the body did ask another for help.
God’s plan for you, if you can make
that surrender I was so hesitant to
make at first, is where you find the
most happiness. I know that now.
The key is not to let your own fears
or sense of unworthiness make your
decision for you.
If you think God might be asking you to help build up the church,
look into it. You will find out, I can
assure you of that. If God is not asking, you will eventually know that,
too. Once you find that vocation to
which God is calling you, you have
no idea what happiness and fulfillment are waiting there. That goes
for whatever your vocation might
be, religious or not. I am glad my
brother’s vocation got me in touch
with mine.
