Becoming a
truer version
of himself
BROTHER JOHN EUSTICE, C.S.V.
Brother John Eustice, C.S.V. owes his vocation to a car breakdown. “I wasn’t even
looking for this life,” says this 6-foot- 5
former Eagle Scout. But, in a pinch during
a cross country trip, with a car whisked
away for repairs, he and a friend stayed
with the Viatorian community in Chicago.
While there, John discovered a lively
community and a way to build a life out
of what he spent a lot of his spare time
doing: youth ministry.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Knowing I am part of something bigger
than myself, that I am completely sup-
ported by a community that trusts and
believes in me, and knowing that we are
pointing youth toward a deep relation-
ship with Jesus.
BEST PART OF LIVING IN COMMUNITY?
Kicking back and having fun with one
another. Rarely does a a day pass that
we aren’t laughing.
FAVORITE WAY TO PRAY?
Hiking through nature and finding a secluded place with a heck of a view, then
breathing in everything around me.
CURRENT MINISTRY?
Director of the Viatorian mission in Belize
and director of youth ministry for St. Francis Xavier Parish in Corozal Town, Belize.
MOST LOVED SAINTS?
Oscar Romero and Dorothy Day (they’re
not official saints, but they are in my
book).
ANY ADVICE TO THOSE CONSIDERING
RELIGIOUS LIFE?
Be yourself. I have found that my life as a
Viatorian helps me to become a truer
version of me every day.
