vocation is that he or she will needto go through formation. Formationimplies taking a hard look at yourselfand being willing to undergo conversion to the life of the gospel andof the community. Conversion is alifelong process, and change will berequired.
Older candidates must also realize that while the initial fervor forreligious life may inspire an idealized view of the life, those who arein the community are human anddo not always live the ideal. Joininga religious community is not aboutescaping the trials and tribulations ofthe world. Everything we find “outthere” can be found “inside here,”hopefully to a lesser degree. Thoughthe professed men and women incommunity have vowed to be different, we still fall short of the glory ofGod.
While many have an idealizedview of ministry, accomplishingthe mission on a day-to-day basisis simply hard work. There is oftenvery little that is romantic about it.Personal and communal prayer canalso be difficult at times. Nonetheless, the beauty of community is thatwhen I am not strong, the brothersor sisters with whom I live can be.Together, we challenge each other tobe faithful.
Religious life is about working, playing, praying, and livingtogether after the example of Jesusand the early Christian community. While such a life can be challenging, it is also extremely rewarding. It is a wonderful way to build theKingdom! =
